Shopping At Costco

Today is June 23. And it is no ordinary day at all. Today, I woke up in Canada for the first time. Due to a late plane departure out of Hong Kong, we missed our reserved ferry, so we were quite late getting in. It was almost midnight before we arrived, so it was dark, so we couldn’t see the view. And we were so tired that we just got our things in order and fell fast asleep. We had been traveling for 18 hours. But as I was saying, today was no ordinary day. We all woke very early and crept out of our beds to see what it was like outside. When we got to the sun room we almost died. It was like we had entered another world. It was so beautiful. The sun was just starting to rise and its first rays were hitting the water and the shoreline. We could not believe our eyes. It was beyond beautiful. It was incredible. I knew then how lucky I was to come to Canada and have this journey.

Time to show our shopping

It was also a fantastic day, because we went shopping, hiking, and yes, made and shared our first meal together. But now, I have got a bit ahead of myself…let me start again.

This morning we visited Costco; it was a bigger supermarket than any I have ever been to in Hong Kong. Summer and I did our own price comparison project. We needed to find some food items and compare the prices with Hong Kong’s prices. This supermarket was very different than in Hong Kong. Everything is big, big, big! The chips were big, the milk was big and the pizzas were big and the list goes on and on.I don’t think you can imagine just how big the store was, so I have posted some photos to show you. Do you know that in some places the supermarket was very cold. I thought, if I go in there I will freeze to death. Mimi went inside and even with a vest on she still froze. But generally speaking, I liked the supermarket because I challenged myself to try and order some food with Summer and Takky. I tried to ask the people some questions about the food. Already it was a great day, we had just bought a ton of food for the house, and then got to order food in English.

What a great way to start this journey.
