Britannia Copper Mine Tour & Museum

Today, we had to get up very very early and head to Squamish, BC. This is where the Britannia Copper Mine is, and the tours are done on a first-come basis, so Mimi did not want us to have to wait long, because we were also going to Whistler. Well, we got there on time. In fact, we had time to have a nap in the vehicles while Mimi stood in a ticket line to make sure we were on the first mine tour.

The underground mine tour was so cool. We went on an actual mine car train inside the mine. Our guide told us about how copper mining was done and how mining changed with new technologies. It was very interesting. Especially, when she showed us how they mined before headlamps were invented.

At one point she turned off all the lights and it was so dark, I couldn’t see a thing. This was very interesting and it gave me a much better understanding of how mining was done and how it was processed.

The museum was also very interesting. We watched an award-winning film about the Britannia Copper Mine. It was very interesting because we got to learn, not just how copper was mined, but the life of the people at that time as well, but the most exciting part about the museum is that outside of it was an area where we could pan for gold, precious metals, copper, and gems. Most of us managed to find some gems and even some tiny pieces of gold! This was a lot of fun.
