Dim Sum
On our tour, we went inside the oldest Chinese restaurant in Victoria and met the owner, so we wanted to come back and try some of his food, because we had already decided to have a Dim Sum lunch at Don Mee’s Restaurant (the most famous Dim Sum restaurant in Victoria). We ordered a number of Dim Sum dishes, but even though it was good, I still like the taste of Hong Kong’s Dim Sum better than Don Mee’s.
Harbour Walking Tour and the Parliament Buildings. After eating Dim Sum, we went off on our own to Victoria Harbour. WOW! Many exciting things happened. When we stopped to watch the floatplanes take off and land, so many great things happened.
First, I noticed the rainbow around the sun, which Miss Smith (Mimi) explained were sundogs and that they meant that there were caused by the refraction of light high up in the atmosphere and are often considered a sign that the weather will be changing. It was a beautiful day, and the next day we were hiking and then headed off to Tofino, so we were not happy to hear this about sundogs. Mimi said maybe the weather would only change a little.
Third, lots of people were interested in watching the River Otters and we got to chat with other people from other countries. My favourite was talking to two American kids. They watched the otters with us. They were on their last day of holiday and were flying back to the states. It was great to be able to initiate a conversation and feel relaxed and normal about it.
