Beacon Hill Petting Zoo

We went to Beacon Hill Petting Zoo, so that we could touch and play with animals. At the beginning, we saw two grass mug horse, they were very cool and didn’t let us touch them. However, we went to the goat pen, and everything changed.

There were baby goats and they liked lots of attention. The amazing thing was I, not only got to pet the goats, but a baby goat actually climbed on my back!

I also got to pet donkeys and I saw a peacock spreads its tail. It was very beautiful.

But our fun was no way near its end. Outside the petting zoo was a large arbutus tree. We really wanted to climb on it, so Mimi said, ‘Go ahead.’ And we did, and there were also some small children who wanted to climb, but were too short, so we helped them and got to chat with them. It was very heartwarming to help them and get to talk with them.

Then Billy wanted to walk around the park itself, so Mimi said let’s go explore. And since we had no more formal activities for the day, other than making dinner, we could now not worry about time. While we were walking around Beacon Hill Park, Billy we saw three Japanese wearing Kimonos. So,we used English talked to them.

The Japanese students were coming home from an afternoon get-together with other students in their program, so they were wearing traditional Japanese clothing and they had extra clothing with them. So, they shared their clothing with us, and dressed us up and shared Japanese sweets with us. They were such wonderful people, so we invited them to our farewell party. Unfortunately, the girls were headed to Toronto, but Zorro was not, so he said he would come. It was such a great time.
We were all so excited to meet other young people and speak lots of English to them. It was the best time – and it was something we had made happen ourselves. We were so proud of ourselves, and for all of us, our English-speaking confidence soared. We hadn’t just interacted for a few minutes. We had kept an interaction going for over an hour. We learned a lot from this.
